As a nurse practitioner I personally tried to use the "gold standard" for my symptoms. Nothing worked until I switched to compounded medicine. I have a new quality of life. My medicine is adjusted for my symptoms. I hate it isn't covered by my insurance. At $3 a day I choose medication over a Starbucks coffee. If anything it needs to be considered essential and my insurance should cover it.

I was diagnosed with lichen sclerosus. Testosterone was prescribed to treat it. At that time I only had white spots. Later I had a hysterectomy. I had all the symptoms of low hormones and was treated with cBHT. My mood became much better. My lichen sclerosus, however, started getting worse. I started getting lesions. My doctor had me put my Biest cream and testosterone cream on it and it got much better. When my doctor switch me to a Biest pill, the lichen sclerosus flared up again. After I switched back to the cream, it calmed down. It never goes away, but is under control with the hormones. If I cannot get my cBHT, not only will my lichen sclerosus become unmanageable and extremely painful, but I will also suffer from extreme depression.

I was experiencing debilitating anxiety, with traditional prescription meds not helping at all. I tried several prescriptions over an 18-month (miserable) time period. Two months on a compounded progesterone troche, my symptoms were drastically reduced, and I had hope that I might be able to regain some sort of normal life for the first time in the 18 months! It's been a year since I've been on this compounded regimen and I'm virtually symptom free now! Also, I am allergic to synthetic estrogen (I couldn't even take birth control pills), so when I do hit full menopause, if bioidentical hormones are not available to me from a compounding pharmacy, I will have to suffer through menopause with no relief!
