United States

In the United States, millions of people depend on compounded medicines to live normal, productive, healthy lives. Their first-hand stories speak directly to the power of this important therapy. As the FDA considers removing access to certain medicines like compounded hormones, their voices must be part of the conversation.

“Compounded hormones give me quality of life!”

Please do NOT make it harder for us to access compounded hormones and medicines! These have helped me immensely throughout my life. I trust the compounding pharmacies I HAVE CHOSEN FOR MYSELF much more than the pharmaceuticals I have been prescribed. Wellbutrin caused esophagus spasms which led to Emergency room visits thinking I was having a heart attack. Benzodiazapines have wreaked havoc in my life like nothing else. The compounded hormones are giving me my life back. Benzos should be illegal to prescribe. There is so much corruption in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as the medical industry. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE AWAY OUR RIGHTS TO ACCESS COMPOUNDED MEDICINES!!!!

“I had all the symptoms when I went through menopause”

I had all the symptoms when I went through menopause. Palpitations, depression, anxiety, insomnia and hot flashes. I started taking Prempro and it gave me headaches everday. In search for something better I found cHRT and never looked back. I've been on these hormones for 20 years. Since I've been on them I've never had a bad mammogram and breast cancer runs in my family. 69 years old and feeling great!

“If a "hot flash" could be described as an experience that lasts”

If a "hot flash" could be described as an experience that lasts, seemingly, forever accompanied by clothes-drenching sweats, eventual fatigue, adverse mentality and mood swings and a general feeling of depression and hopelessness, that would describe me long after menopause should have given way to some kind of stability most older women seem to achieve. Were it not for CBHRT my suffering in this way had no hope for relief. I am thankful my doctor knew about College Pharmacy (Colorado Springs) and their work with HRT. Without it I cannot imagine where I would be, today. This also goes for my husband who has suffered through this problem with me.

“Senior on Medicare uses HRT to fight osteoporosis”

I used HRT for many years to help fight osteoporosis. I used Estrogel and Divigel when I was employed full time with health benefits. Now that I have joined Medicare, I can no longer find insurance coverage (part D) for a gel or cream because there are no generic forms of these products. I now use Biest (estriol 50%/Estradiol 50%) from a compounding pharmacy. Also, the product I buy from a compounding pharmacy is less expensive than pharmaceutical HRT.

“After going through menopause I didn't think there was hope”

After going through menopause I didn't think there was a light at the end of the tunnel. I had brain fog, sleepless nights, high anxiety, vaginal dryness, etc. When I was placed on bioidentical hormones I couldn't believe the difference it made. I had been on premarin and other hormone replacements that didn't work. I felt very confident and comfortable taking these compounded hormone replacement therapy. I would recommend bioidentical hormone replacement therapy in a heartbeat. I would hope that the FDA would understand how many people that cbht has helped many women and men. They may have done a study but it doesn't mean anything to me unless you are on it.

“I had a hysterectomy when I was 36 years old”

I had a hysterectomy when I was 36 years old. Post surgery, I was always tired, moody, and had decreased libido. I started on traditional hormone replacement and experienced headaches, nausea, and other unwanted side effects. My gyn at the time started me on compounded HRT, the dosing based on hormone levels in my bloodwork. Compounded HRT allowed me to get exactly what I needed and nothing else. My dose has been reduced as I aged, reflection what would naturally happen to me without a hysterectomy. I am now 67 years old, with a wonderful quality of life. I am active (run half-marathons), remain happily married, and accomplished career goals after my surgery that I know would have been almost impossible without the support of this medication.

“World of difference for me”

I had severe peri menopause symptoms before cBHT and went to several gynecologists who wanted to put me on a variety of birth control pills which had not only not helped but has made symptoms worse. There wasn’t one out there that gave me any relief but nobody seemed to care. I found a gynecologist who actually took the time to hormone test me and I was very high estrogen and very low progesterone. Not everyone is the same!!!!!!!!! We shouldn’t be forced to only have the option of taking something made for most people of it doesn’t work for us! I take something formulated for me. And it’s natural! Bonus!! Please please save cBHT! Did the FDA study do hormone testing and make products specific to the individuals or just make one thing and give it to everyone? As hormones continue to change I want to be able to take something that continues to help!! Not only have the option to take something that makes me sick or nothing at all.

“I was diagnosed with lichen sclerosis when I was about 40.”

I was diagnosed with lichen sclerosus when I was about 40 years old. I went through menopause early and suffered terribly for 20+ years. Finally, I found a doctor who had successfully treated LS with compounded cBHT. Within 2 weeks of using the cBHT my life changed. I had not had pain free intercourse in 20 years and my husband and I had not even attempted intercourse in 3 years. Today, we have an active, enjoyable, painless sex life. I am not in excruciating pain. In fact, I am pain free. My life has changed dramatically!! I need cBHT.

Being able to take the progesterone in oil injections is a huge factor to my ability to naturally start my family. I have PCOS and endometriosis with chronic low progesterone. Without this compounded hormone I would not have been able to get pregnant in a way that was natural and healthy for my body. This drug is a vital part to my overall health and the life of my child and future children.

“I started having seizures at 14”

I started having seizures at 14, when I was going trough menopause I couldn't sleep for days and my seizures increased even with medication. Two weeks after being on a hormone pellet I was able to sleep all night and my seizures stopped. My neurologist said my hormones were the cause of my seizures that's why when I was balanced they went away. I have always had seizures with medication and they have never found anything wrong with any scans. Please don't take this away from us, it was very hard not sleeping for days. If you want to speak to me, you can. I think you would be very interested in my story.

“At the age of 43 in 2003, I underwent a craniotomy.”

At the age of 43 in 2003, I underwent a craniotomy to remove a pituitary cyst. During that surgey I lost pituitary function and became Adrennal insufficeint as well as steroid insufficient. I immediately began taking supplemental steroids and hormone replacement meds. After a few years I was still not feeling myself. My physical drive was sluggish. I had difficulty exercising for very long and as a result was losing my physical stamina and strength, both which are incerdibly important to prevent osteoperosis as well as to maintain long term emotional and physical health. My doctor mentioned that some replacing the normal testosterone level at my age my help. It really has made a huge difference for me and I have since been able to consistantly lift weights and do cardio workouts. This treatment is controlled and very effective. Please continue to provide this medication to prevent further health issues both physically,, mentally and emotionally. Thank you!

When I entered menopause, my thyroid and hormones tanked. I could not function, I felt so awful. I did not want to go out or even leave my bed. “cBHT has positively affected my life”

cBHT has positively affected my life. Prior to taking this I was experiencing very low mood, anxiety, sleeplessness and general lack of vitality for life. At first my doctor wanted me to go on birth control and an anti-depressant. I did try this approach and it made things worse for me, my mood became worse along with my anxiety, I also experienced nausea. This experience led me to look into cBHT and I found a doctor who offered this. Although, I was a little nervous at first, I decided to try it. Wow! it has really helped me, I actually feel human again! I can sleep, my moods are so much better and I am calm. This is something that should be made available to women and men.

Hear their stories, in their own words. Protect their access to compounded hormones.

On this page, we can only touch on the data that demonstrates the importance of compounded hormones to the lives of millions of women in this country. While the decision to take this vital therapy from patients and physicians might be profitable for the big pharmaceutical companies, it will be disastrous for the millions of patients that those same pharmaceutical companies cannot serve!

We encourage the appropriate committees in both the House and Senate to hold hearings on this critical issue.
