United States

In the United States, millions of people depend on compounded medicines to live normal, productive, healthy lives. Their first-hand stories speak directly to the power of this important therapy. As the FDA considers removing access to certain medicines like compounded hormones, their voices must be part of the conversation.

“cBHT hormones have changed my life”

10 months ago, I had a complete hysterectomy after battling fibroids and out-of-control periods for 10 years that had recently sidelined me to my home for 48-72 hours every month. The bleeding was so bad, I couldn't predict if I could leave without embarrassing accidents. This also caused my mood, libido, nutrition, and energy to be affected due to extreme blood loss.

After discussing the possible benefits of having a hysterectomy and researching and at-length discussions on cBHT with my doctor and with 3 girlfriends who had GREAT success with the therapy, I decided to move forward.

The hysterectomy itself changed my life and the hormones have as well. My energy is back...I don't have to nap everyday as I was. My libido is back and increased and my husband and I enjoy a radically changed sex life. My overall mood is more even and steady and predictable without extreme highs and lows. The hormones have allowed all of these things to happen. Night sweats and hot flashes are also non-existent to significantly decreased.

I am forever grateful for the life change I've experienced on cBHT and I would be devastated to lose the opportunity to have it.

“Life Changed!”

i am a 59 year old female and several years ago as I reached mid-menopause I began to have hot flashes, mood swings and night sweats.
Accompanying this was joint pain that was almost constant and seemed to magnify at night resulting in sleepless nights.

After a complete and thorough examination by my OB/ GYN she advised that I a regime of compounded hormones which are compounded by a nearby pharmacy. In order to prescribe the correct dosage they did bloodwork and a saliva test. The results confirmed that I was very low on estrogen. So the prescription was filled!

Within 1 week of beginning the compounded hormone treatment my joint pain went away completely and there was a significant reduction in the hot flashes, mood swings and night sweats. As important as that was to me the most important was that there have never been ANY side effects. I am very health conscious and eat healthy, exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight. Therefore bio-identical compounded hormone therapy is the only wise choice for me!

“Balanced & Mindfulness”

Dear Congress,
Please do not make a decision to remove hormone replacement therapy because I have been a patient of this since 2004 due to radical hysterectomy.
Having this product helps me to evade fatigue, hot flashes, severe mood swings, bloating and constipation. It balances my mood so I’m not going through severe mood swings and not understanding why. I sleep better and I can name so many more benefits of taking the medicine (HRT) that my doctor specifically prescribed for me!

So I’m asking Congress please do not make a decision for me. Allow me to work with my doctor for what is best for me!!

“Better Health”

I've been using hormone therapy for years now and feel this therapy has improved my overall health dramatically. I have more energy, exercise more, and have a much better attitude towards my family and friends. Gone are all the "old age" assumed issues that plague so many people my age. Restricting this therapy, I believe, would be a mistake for many, many, people and cause further issues with those of us who rely on compounding treatments for improved health.

“Feeling so much better”

I am an active 59 year old woman. As I grew older I began to experience brain fog, some memory loss and experiencing fatigue. I started HRT at Amy Brenner and Associates in West Chester Ohio. I initially began Testosterone therapy until I finally went into menopause at 59. Just last month I started estrogen and what a difference that has made in my life. I feel like myself again and can continue living my life the way I want to. HRT works for me. I'm not sure how other people can state it doesn't work for me. It's life changing and not their choice to make.

“Early Menopause”

I was surprised to enter menopause at 38, in the middle of adopting our second daughter. Symptoms included trouble sleeping, hair loss, and depression. I tried every form of HRT, and learned too late that synthetic Estradiol caused me to develop benign fibroadenomas throughout my uterus and ovaries.
I needed a full hysterectomy, and thankfully switched to compounded sublingual troches. Paired with progesterone, my hormones stabilized and I could sleep again.
2 years ago I wanted to save money, so I switched to an oral capsule. The results were DISASTROUS - unstable depression, anxiety, and loss of sleep.

I went back on compounded troches, and it took months to restabilize.

Compounded bioidenticals gave me my life back!!

“Before I took cBHT, I had many symptoms”

Before I took cBHT, my presenting symptoms included: lethargy, low energy, moderate depression, uninterested in much of anything in life, nights sweats, foggy thinking. I thought it was related to menopause & that my life was no longer worth living. A friend of mine suggested that I consider natural hormone replacement therapy as it could help me to feel better. That it would help was an understatement. The difference was dramatic. After a relatively short time, I felt like my old self. My energy increased. My mood was upbeat. My interest in life was greatly enhanced. I felt much younger and happier. I started doing many of the things I had done before menopause had dulled my senses. I started to attend yoga and dance classes again. I went skiing with my son. I took my dogs for long walks or hikes. I feel as if I got a second chance at life.

“Compounded Hormones changed my life”

Menopause for many is an assault to the mind and body. I felt as if someone had taken the real me away forever. I was irritable. I developed severe insomnia. This impacted my work performance and my personal relationships. It also wiped out any interest in intimacy with my partner. He felt hurt and confused by the profound change in me. It caused a strain on our relationship. I mourned the old me. I was only 54. Was this it? Had I hit old age? I was depressed and felt hopeless. This went on for several years. I did take hormone pills that were not compounded. They helped hot flashes and night sweats for which I was grateful but I was still not myself until I tried compounded hormones it was a stunning change. I sleep. I’m happy. I am me again. Please do not take this away. I’m enjoying being around people again. My personal relationships are satisfying again. This has been a gift.

“While I've grown in wisdom over my 72 years...”

While I've grown in wisdom over my 72 years, I wish I had heard of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy decades ago. I was one of those women who experienced early on-set menopause in my mid- to late- 30's (in the 1980's), at the same time that the health of my father was failing due to Alzheimer's, and my step-mother's because of cancer. Both died a month apart in 1989. My early on-set menopause manifested as insomnia. I would fall asleep without issue, but then wake up a couple of times during the night. It got so bad that I would fall asleep, but then wake up 2 hours later. It would be another half-hour to 45 minutes before I would fall asleep again, then wake up 2 hours later--again, and again. One physician I went to for help did absolutely nothing--totally ignoring my pleas for help. A year and a half later, another physician said that my system had totally shut down, and prescribed Premarin on a daily basis for at least 3 months. This made a huge difference in my life. However, I certainly did not want to take a synthetic hormone for the rest of my life and risk breast cancer. When I was 15, my mother died of breast cancer. After I heard Suzanne Somers' testimonial about her use of bioidentical hormones, and read her book on that subject, I decided to investigate further. A physician in my area specialized in treating menopausal symptoms with bioidentical hormones. The effect was immediate! My depression lifted and I no longer felt that I was going to break out in tears at any moment. I slept through the night, dreamt, and woke up feeling like a normal person. Without access to bioidentical hormones, I don't know what would have happened to me. During those periods in my life when I changed jobs, or my company down-sized and I was laid off so that I could not afford the bioidentical hormones, my life changed dramatically. At this point, I wasn't sleeping at all--wide awake at night and only feeling sleeping around 8:30 AM. I would sleep for about 4 hours and wake up again. How could I hold a job with this kind of a sleep pattern--apply as a night desk clerk? When would I interact with my family and friends? At times suicide was on my mind as a way out. Fortunately for me, I got a job after being laid off for 24-months and have been able to afford my bioidentical hormones ever since. I am sleeping well, enjoying my day job, interacting with my family and friends as much as the pandemic will allow. For someone thousands of miles away making a decision that compounded hormones, or any compounded medication does not serve the public, I would ask: Just exactly what is your agenda and whom are you serving? Are you on the side of ordinary people whose medical needs are being met by compounded medications, or are you on the side of big pharma and their goal of ever greater profits?

“I had a hysterectomy at a young age...”

As a person who needed a hysterectomy at a young age, I had to give up taking oral estrogen due to the length of time I was on it (10+ years) due to negative side effects of oral estrogen. I replaced that with a compound estrodial cream that I use vaginally 3 x a week. Without that use, I would be experiencing painful sex and increased urinary tract infections. The FDA would be FAILING consumers if it were to restrict the use of compounded hormone therapy without considering patient outcomes. I for one would fight any restrictions that would impact my ability to rely on compounded hormone therapy!!!

“I am eternally grateful every day for my compounded hormones.”

When my business advisor recognized the signs of what she believed to be a hormonal imbalance in me, she set me on a path she had already successfully travelled to find help.
After undergoing blood and saliva analysis it was discovered, I needed compounded hormone therapy as a part of my daily health routine.
Over a year later, I can definitively say, the regimen I am on has greatly improved my quality of life. I cannot underscore how important that is!
I am a mother of two teenage daughters, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, business owner, real estate developer, community member, animal lover....
I not only need to feel good for all the people and pets in my life, I need to feel good for myself. Above all, as a human being, I have the right to feel good and to have access to healthful and helpful regimens that align with what I (and my doctor) feel is best for me.
I cannot imagine why people would not want that for people and I really can't imagine why there are people out there that feel they have the right to take that away from others.
It's important to remember, we as human beings create the world we live in. Let's continue to create a world where people are respected, cherished, loved and where our rights are valued and honored, not challenged and taken away. For that is indeed a slippery slope that we all pay the price for.
We want better than that for ourselves and our loved ones.
Please let the millions of people who have found invaluable help from compounded hormones, keep their access to them. That shouldn't even be in question.

I have been blessed to be able to purchase my compound hormones for many years. I had a hysteretomy at the age of 38 now 72 and because of the the compound hormones I have been able to live a healthy life. “cBHT”

I've been using a compound pharmacy to provide hormone replacements that actually work for me without horrible side effects for over 20 years. Traditional pharmaceuticals left me with bad reactions, and no relief for the symptoms I suffer.
I cannot tell you how import it is to provide these types of medications that actually work without bad side effects.
The cBHT that I am on has given me my life back. I can think clearly, I don't have horrible hot flashes every 5 minutes, I feel better and have my energy back. I'm able to work a fulltime position, I enjoy my family and friends and they enjoy me. The traditional drugs by big Pharma gave me horrible side affects - headaches, hot flashes, memory loss, and in general I simply felt horrible and it made me miserable.

“I had estrogen positive breast cancer and vaginal atrophy - I need these compounded hormones”

I need these hormones because they are one quarter as strong as the Estring estrogens and I need to use a local estrogen to avoid UTIs. My breast cancer was estrogen and progestroren positive. Tamoxofin , hormone fighting treatment I need to take, causes vaginal dryness, which I have had for many years. Also, the Estring which I have used for many years is now a $200.00 co pay every 3 months. UTIs can cause death.

“Healing”

BHRT is safe, effective, different from Premarin and Prempro, and proven beyond any reasonable medical and scientific doubt. Results were published in April 2007 in the Journal of the American Medical Association and then again reinforced by similar research the following June published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

I am a patient that has been using BHRT since 2018. It has helped me restore my hormones to help with joint pain, moods, anxiety, maintain weight, PMS, and sleep.

Please do your unbiased research and see for yourself how BHRT helps thousands of Americans achieve health in a safer way versus pharmaceutical drugs with nasty side effects.

It is nice to have one more tool in the box to help live a healthy and productive life.

“Access to progesterone”

I was having severe allergy problems of sinus drainage and coughing. The ENT and Pulmonologist could not find a prescription to help and they did not know why I was coughing. They said I had a lot of sinus drainage that was going into the lungs and I was coughing to clear out that drainage. I tried over 10 different drugs and treatments to no avail.

Then my pharmacist suggested that I do a cortisol test and progesterone since I'd had a lot of personal stress recently. My cortisol was way low normal, almost low and my progesterone was not measurable.

I started topical progesterone once daily and within a week my coughing stopped. My progesterone was so low that my body couldn't make enough cortisol to control allergies. I continued the progesterone and discontinued several asthma and allergy medications that were making me feel anxious with brain fog and memory issues.

Topical progesterone has given my life and energy back!

If I had to continue the allergy route Medicare would have spent over $1,000 a month for the rest of my life for allergy and asthma medications.

“My choice”

I have used both cream and pill for menopausal symptoms and post-menopausal symptoms. Bio-identical compounds seem to be gentler and safer on the body and still effective. I want personal choice in what I use. Please don't restrict my choices by restricting the use of compounded hormone therapy.

“compound hormones”

I have been blessed to be able to purchase my compound hormones for many years. I had a hysteretomy at the age of 38 now 72 and because of the the compound hormones I have been able to live a healthy life. I have had no side affects from them and I have not had any problems since being on these for years.

Hear their stories, in their own words. Protect their access to compounded hormones.

On this page, we can only touch on the data that demonstrates the importance of compounded hormones to the lives of millions of women in this country. While the decision to take this vital therapy from patients and physicians might be profitable for the big pharmaceutical companies, it will be disastrous for the millions of patients that those same pharmaceutical companies cannot serve!

We encourage the appropriate committees in both the House and Senate to hold hearings on this critical issue.
