Through compounded bioidential hormone prescriptions, I am able to work with my doctor and get the exact dose that best fits my needs. I believe they have kept me feeling younger and more active than many women my age, without the side effects caused by traditional hormone replacement. I currently use a bioidential hormone cream as well as a capsule for Progesterone. My insurance plan used to cover these, but since the ACA forced my prior insurance carrier to drop individual plans, I now have to pay for these prescriptions out of pocket. They are not covered by insurance plans, which makes no sense as I feel they are keeping my healthier.

I'm not going to sugar coat this- for medical reasons and to prevent cancer, I had no choice but to remove my female organs...all of them. I was made to believe that since I'm 47 and likely perimenopausal, I shouldn't suffer any ill effects hormonally. Gentlemen, this is incorrect and I have suffered greatly. I wouldn't wish these physical and mental effects on my worst enemy. I have suffered from so many horrendous night sweats (about 15 each night) and each lasts about 10 minutes or more. Tell me how a woman is suppose to function when she's not able to sleep due to night sweats? The hot flashes during the day are bad enough. My family wanted me out of the house at night because they all just about froze to death. My hair started falling out and still is. And my mental capacity and attitude were always kind and loving...it seems I'm bitchy to just about everyone and I seem to have lost my mothering compassion. Honestly, I'd rather be dead than to be without cBHRT because it has saved mine and my family and coworkers lives as well.

I've been using the compound HRT for MANY years. I started with the troche, but the small private pharmacy in Leavenworth closed. My OBGYN suggested the vaginal cream for its lower dosage and personal balance. (I had to find a compound pharmacy in Kansas City). I feel it's kept me physically the same as I was before menopause, in ALL respects. I feel good, and most notably, my skin is moist and young. My body has not 'dried up', as they say. I'm now 71. My doctor recommended I cut back to just 1/2GM to keep the dosage even safer. I have never had any side effects or problems with this RX...being compounded just for me. Whenever I get the chance and the subject comes up with younger women, I highly recommend this type of HRT from the start, rather than suffering through testing other tablet type solutions. Even a few times when insurance wouldn't cover it, we gladly paid out of pocket...it's priceless! It just logically makes sense to be created individually for each woman, than guessing what 'might' work for all.

It has been the best thing to happen to me. After my hysterectomy, I was miserable. Moody, depressed, and my skin looked like I was 80, but I was 38. I had terrible migraines on a regular basis. I had ZERO libido. I didn't find bioidentical HRT until several years after my hysterectomy. This truly has saved my marriage and has changed my way of thinking. Without the opportunity to use compounded hormone therapy, my life would not be the same. I went to my doctor (in fact I went to three doctors) and tried various other drugs....nothing touched the hot flashes and the affect they were having on my ability to sleep and get through the day. Thank goodness for hormone therapy. Restricting this option will NOT be a benefit to women. As it is, I have to pay for it totally out of pocket. It's worth every penny.

cBHT makes me feel great...and normal! It totally eliminates hot flashes. I read that it slows bone loss in women predisposed to osteoporosis of which I am one. Also, genetically, I am more able to utilize "natural" hormones as opposed to synthetic, non-bioidentical ones because of two genetic mutations of my methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene. The compound gave me back my life! Menopause affected me in many negative ways. I used to have a pictorial memory. If I looked twice at a phone number, I had it memorized, which was a wonderful assent in my business. With menopause, I totally lost that ability. I had severe and numerous hot flashes, over 30 a day. I also started having trouble handling the numerous details which used to be a part of my life. I was having difficulty just functioning and coping with ordinary tasks. I tried prescription estrogen replacements such as Premarin. That is the only one I remember by name, though I tried others too, with mixed results. Using bioidentical hormone therapy has worked for me. I stopped having the hot flashes, which were debilitating during my business day. I regained my abiliity to cope with day to day activities, which had become overwhelming with the onset of menopause. I did get back the pictorial memory eventually, as I continued to use the bioidentical hormone therapy. Menopause severely altered my life. Using the bioidentical therapy has allowed me to keep my lifestyle and regain my life.

Without supplemental bioidentical progesterone, I would have miscarried both of my children. I was tested for my testosterone levels by my urologist. My levels were very low and I had health issues related to that. I was unable to tolerate Androgel due to the alcohol base causing skin rashes. I have also tried Axiron with the same results. Neither of these drugs actually raised my testosterone levels. The drugs were also extremely expensive. $700+ per month and insurance was of no help. My doctor was going to try a long-acting injection which my insurance originally approved but then declined. At this point, my doctor contacted a compounding pharmacy and they stated that they could make me a topically applied cream that would not cause the skin rash issues I have experienced previously. The cream raised my testosterone levels to a point that I started to feel normal again and the cost was only $85 per month. I am 69 and have been using this medication for several years and I strongly feel it has greatly improved my life. To take this type of treatment away from elderly men that need it would be a great disservice to older individuals that need a testosterone treatment to keep their bodies and mental wellbeing at a level that allows us to function normally and enjoy a full life.
