After my complete hysterectomy I had horrible hormonal issues. I tried the patches, pills, creams, gels, most every brand which was very frustrating. My body does not like foreign chemicals, additives, etc and in return makes me feel worse. Not until my Nurse Practitioner prescribed compounded hormones for me did things start to improve, so life began to become joyful again. What was even better was my insurance at that time BCBS paid for my compounded hormones so wasn’t a burden on our finances. Now that has changed so I pay almost $200 out of pocket just to feel normal, so my life would be miserable again if there was no compounded medicines. I also take a compounded Thyroid which is great also.

I had a hysterectomy at age 32. Began the artificial hormone therapy and stayed on them for years. Still had hot flashes and mood swings, not to mention when I heard how they were made it made me ill. The cruelty to those mares. Being a horse lover I was angry. I stopped the Premarin and discovered Bio identical compounded formulas. They were designed just for me, not generic. Big difference. All my symptoms went away. I slept, had energy and I thrived. Do not regulate our hormones. How and what medications we take is our constitutional right.

During perimenopause, I was having my period twice a month. My doctor put me on progesterone pills which only made me sick and depressed, but did nothing for my problem. As the pills were the lowest dose available in that form, she then tried an IUD which according to her was the lowest dose available. This also did not work and I felt miserable. I began seeing another doctor. After extensive hormone testing, she also recommended progesterone. I did not want to go this route due to prior experience. She told me that we would be using compounded bio identical progesterone, not synthetic. I still had reservations, but using the compounded progesterone turned my life around. To got rid of my period and my depression and we could make small tweaks when dosage needed to be changed. I don't know what my life would be like if I couldn't have access to compounded bio identical hormones.

After 18 months of taking cBHT my bone density improved 32% in my lumbar spine and 12.9% in my right hip. I previously had osteoporosis but now have osteopenia. I was encouraged to start Forteo 2 years ago but I improved my bone density without daily injections or any other osteoporosis medication.

Being able to get natural hormones that are easily adjustable to my needs (rather than prescribed doses that are not alterable) has made my hormone therapy successful, whereas I have friends who did not go this route and did not tolerate the hormones well, possibly because the dosages were not correct. I am actually taking the DHEA Suppository for Atrophy of the Vulva. It was prescribed by my gynecologist. At first, I was prescribed Premarin and it was horrible! Nothing but continual abdominal cramps, and itchiness & pain in the vulva area. Sex with my husband was totally OUT, and I had no quality of life. Then I was prescribed the compound DHEA, and my life turned totally around. The cramps, pain & itchiness was gone. Sex with my husband was restored, and I could look forward to a pain free future. If DHEA is taken away, I would have no choice but to go back to on artificial hormones again, and a life of misery. In 2011, I David R. Byler, was at a mental health facility and I was diagnosed as having bipolar. I was put on meds for that. I was very, very sad and depressed - crying about next to nothing.
