First, I feel bioidentical hormones are better than synthetic hormones for my health. Hormones changed my life. I was feeling depressed, I would get very angry at work and would snap at my co-workers for no reason. My hot flashes would interfere with my work. Not getting a good night's sleep affected my work performance as well. I find it frustrating that insurance companies do not cover bioidentical hormones, since they are better for you.

I take liothyronine compounded for slow release instead of synthroid because it relives symptoms of hypothyroidism that synthroid could not, but I tried synthroid for years. Compounded T3 helps relive constipation, always feeling cold, hair growth, skin dryness, energy levels and easy weight gain. I have researched this topic and it seems some people have trouble converting t4 to t3 which is the active type of the hormone for metabolism. Bypassing t4, synthroid, and going directly to t3 is beneficial for me.

I had a complete hysterectomy 16 years ago. I suffered from hot flashes all day and night sweats all night. An OB/GYN had a seminar explaining the benefits of bioidenticals. Within three days of beginning treatment, my hot flashes and night sweats diminished and my memory started coming back. I was able to do crossword puzzles again and think clearly. I see so many women suffering from hot flashes and night sweats- not just for a few years. These can last into a woman's 70's. They have really made my senior years so much better. Even women without hysterectomies receive so much benefit, but those of us with hysterectomies no longer have any natural hormones, and those who have cancer cannot under any reason take hormones. I am 78 and am in much better health than those who do not take the bioidenticals. I still get around like most people in their 60's. Having hot flashes is something that most women had to endure until the bioidenticals came out.

I was perimenopausal in my late 30's. I started experiencing painful intercourse. I was not able to use available hormonal meds such as Premarin (pill or cream), because I'd had blood clots in both lungs from birth control pills in my 20's. This was in 1974. I cannot imagine how awful my life would have been these past 30 years (I'm 70) were it not for my prescriber and the compounding pharmacists. The form of estrogen in the cream is of a type that stays in the vaginal tissues and vastly decreases pain during intercourse. I cannot take anything that could enter my bloodstream; otherwise, I could develop clots again.

In September, I began using the compounded estrogen cream and five months later, it now is non-threatening and sex has resumed. My numerous allergies require me to have a specially compounded formula so as not to have an allergic reaction, DOWN THERE! That happened to me once before with an over the counter and never again! I am carefully monitored every six months with blood work and a doctor's visit to ensure that the correct balance is being maintained in my system.
