My main purpose was to protect my body from aging after educating myself through Dr. Diana Schwarzbein (an MD with a specialty in endocrinology). I have kept my weight low at pre-menopausal levels, am energetic and have educated myself. When I was forced to take a generic Vivelle patch, I saw weight gain and did not feel good. Please protect our rights to make our own decisions! This is extremely important!

Finding bioidentical hormones changed my life and the results were observable, literally within the second day of use. I slept through the night (the first time in years), my libido was back to "normal" within three days, the texture of my skin improved, I could find my words again... and just felt so much better. I am a clinical psychologist and bioidentical hormones enhance my energy levels to where therapists half my age cannot keep up with me. This has been an absolute life saver for me and I do not have enough words to sing the praises of bioidentical hormones. We all experience menopausal symptoms or hormone imbalances differently and to prescribe the same amount of estrogen, progesterone, etc. (as is the case in hormone replacement therapy) for every one is really ridiculous.

Drug company formulas did not work; they caused serious side effects (i.e., Premarin made from horse urine); insurance would only approve generic formulas which are inherently ineffective because the inexpensive binding ingredients interfere with the absorption of the active ingredients. Compounded formulas contain quality ingredients only and in the proper dose as I require; and, my requirements do fluctuate.

Compounded bioidentical hormone therapy has made a huge difference in being able to nail down the exact effective dosage needed to address negative menopausal symptoms while not exacerbating my chronic migraines. I could never have done that with traditional commercial HRT therapy. Furthermore, the one time I tried an industrially produced product, it didn't work. Compounded HRT has been a godsend for me!

Instead of the one size fits all pharmaceutical dosage for estrace and progestin, the bioidentical HRT has been designed to fit the levels of estrogen and progesterone my body needs. The amount can be adjusted to maintain the levels that work best for me without side effects. The bioidentical works in conjunction with the synthroid medication. The pharmaceutical dosage caused loss of hair, dark skin pigmentation over the lips and on the knees, ringing in the ears, thyroid nodules developed and irritability/mood changes. After undergoing a recent DEXA scan, the gynecologist recommended I remain on the bioidentical hormones as the tests showed the density has been stable for several years with no new loss of bone. The gynecologist is not the doctor who prescribes the HRT but supports my doctors decision.

I had a hysterectomy in 2007 at the age of 55. I started taking Prempro, which I didn't like. The fact they were using horse urine was one of the reasons I stopped taking it. Plus I didn't like the way it made me feel and I try to limit what I take orally. I then started using estradiol patches and a compounding progesterone cream in 2008. I still use these today. I feel my hormones are balanced. I tried progesterone orally and didn't think it was doing anything. I can actually feel the cBHT progesterone cream working after I apply it. I have also tried other compounding pharmacy progesterone creams that didn't do anything. I don't have a uterus but using estradiol and progesterone makes me feel good. I have also tried just taking using the estradiol alone but always went back to getting the progesterone cream.

I can honestly say that BHRT has given me my life back and I don't want to ever live without it.
My menopause began in late 2015, but my desire for sex had been long gone by that time. Several years ago, I started using a compounded estrogen cream to address issues of vaginal dryness and atrophy. Then came the issues of sweaty, sleepless nights, weight gain, joint and chronic back pain, dry eyes, dry skin and mental lapses and osteopenia.
I started to educate myself about hormones and their importance for both menopausal symptom resolution and for ability to protect our breasts, brain and bones.
I believe that women's health matters and that we have a right to choose the method of hormonal treatment that works best for us. Men have many options for the treatment of low testosterone and sexual health, all of which are covered by health insurance. When will women be afforded that same right, which is long overdue?
I know I speak for many women when I beg you not take away our compounded hormones. I will gladly continue to pay out of pocket for the chance to feel whole, healthy and happy again. Thank you.
