For years I suffered from undiagnosed hormonal imbalances and an undiagnosed autoimmune disease (Hashimotos) affecting my thyroid. Starting in 2003 I went to several doctors seeking help. None did any type of labs to check adequately for hormone imbalances. I felt like my symptoms were guessed at and were prescribed the standard one size fits all prescription hormone replacement medications. These prescribed hormone drugs did not help and actually worsened my symptoms. It was awful. I asked all the doctors that I went to if there were any labs that could be done to check my hormone levels and were told "no". I also had developed osteopenia which is directly linked to low estrogen levels. My symptoms were severe, I could not sleep, had terrible anxiety and mood swings, terrible body pain, brain fog, ZERO libido, extreme fatigue, could barely function and had significant weight gain. I was a younger woman when all of this started happening and this went on for several years while desperately seeking medical help.
After researching I found a medical practice and made an appointment with one of their NPs. This NP actually LISTENED to me about my symptoms. Proper and accurate labs were ordered to completely check my hormone levels. I found out that I had had extremely low estradiol/estriol levels, testosterone, and progesterone levels and was prescribed compounded bioidentical hormones. My health and life improved dramatically. I have been on compounded bioidentical hormone therapy for almost 20 years now. My hormone levels are perfect. The osteopenia (bone loss) has improved dramatically. And I am in remission with the Hashimotos.
I am 59 years old, very active, have great energy, and am in the best shape of my life. All breast exams totally clear and no OBGYN issues -actually huge and dramatic improvement.
I am outraged that the FDA is targeting compounded bioidentical hormone therapies that are being prescribed by highly qualified and knowledgeable doctors and nurse practitioners. These medical professionals know how to assess their patients, order and read the labs as well as determine the correct ratio of hormones for compounding for each individual's needs!
I demand that Congress STOP this act of the FDA to target the doctors who prescribe cBHT with the EXTREMELY flawed report by NASEM. It is total disinformation. This is an outrage! Please listen to those of us who have deeply benefited health-wise from cBHT and from the wonderful doctors and Nurse Practitioners who know how to prescribe them. WE ARE THE PROOF THAT THESE COMPOUNDED BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE THERAPIES ARE SAFE, EFFECTIVE, AND LIFE-SAVING!
