I have been in medical practice in California since 2008. I literally could not do my job without the ability to prescribe compounded hormones for my patients, both menopausal women and andropausal men. Many people suffer with symptoms of low hormones and conventional options rarely are adequate to relieve suffering for both men and women. I also have a number of women in their 20s and 30s who have such suppression of their endogenous hormone production that they are in essence, perimenopausal. The ONLY bioidentical options for these young women is a compounded prescription providing cyclic doses of hormones. This allows these young women to recover a sense of normalcy and well-being by providing them with a menses while we are working to eradicate the hormonal dysregulation in the first place. Itl enables us to do this without putting these young women on oral contraceptive, which only suppress their endogenous production of hormones further.
In addition, a larger percentage of my patients have hypothyroidism and a growing number of them do not do well with or can't even tolerate the commercially available thyroid medications due to reactions to excipients. My practice is comprised of many patients with profound Mast Cell Activation. These patients benefit greatly by having access to safe and effective compounded alternatively that are free from gluten, dairy, corn and other potentially problematic excipients.
My patients and I have benefitted greatly from compounded hormones and other forms of compounded medications. It would be inhumane and medically disastrous if the FDA rules to restrict these essential medications.
