“I went to my doctor complaining that I just had no interest ...”
I went to my doctor complaining that I just had no interest in life anymore, no sex drive (my poor husband), and that I just didn't feel like myself. I can complain with the best of them but I was usually upbeat and saw the humor in most situations. Over time, I quit laughing, became despondent and saw nothing positive in my life.
My doctor took her time adjusting my hormones until we reached the current cream. I love my compounding pharmacist and am so glad to be able to talk to a Ph.D. in pharmacy if I have a question, rather than someone who has simply learned what drug companies tell them about the drugs they dispense.
I feel like me again. I would love to not be paying out of pocket, but the pharmaceutical companies have lobbied their way into our current situation. If my insurance company had its way, I could not even get NP Thyroid or Armour Thyroid, when my problem is related to my inability to convert the hormones to T3, not that my TPH is low. TPH has always been fine, but 10 years ago my doctor dug deeper and found out that I had NO T3. I have had to pay out of pocket ever since because not a single one of the four insurance companies which have provided my coverage since would cover anything but Synthroid.
I do not believe there is a one-size fits all approach to medicine. I do believe that medical schools and government regulatory bodies are trying to force us to believe that there is. I also believe that preservatives, genetic modification, and processing of foods have led to a health crisis in this country no one truly understands because the companies who can pay for lobbyists bombard our elected representatives with their side of things in order to defeat other voices, and preserve the companies' profits.
Please think about this, if for no other reason than the fact that if we truly have a free market in this country, consumers should be able to make the choice between supporting drug companies with drugs which do not work for them, and obtaining compounded drugs, which do. And while you are it, we need regulations that prohibit insurance companies from covering only drugs made by large pharmaceutical companies, which is what is happening now.
