I have used compounded bioidentical hormone therapy since 2008. At that time, I was going through a serious health crisis because my immune system was malfunctioning. I had suffered for years with severe itching all over my body. I tried all kinds of treatments recommended by some of the best dermatologists and allergists in my area. I was finally told by both disciplines that all they could recommend for me was to put me on an immunosuppressant drug for the rest of my life. At that time, I was 60 years old and working as a school psychologist in public schools. I realized that going on an immunosuppressant drug would probably be equivalent to an early death sentence for me. I knew that I could not go on living in my current condition and was desperate for some relief. I finally contacted a medical practice which practices conventional medicine combined with holistic medicine. After weeks of consultation and testing, I was found to have many allergies, sensitivities, toxicities, and deficiencies which had culminated in almost a total breakdown of several systems in my body. This type of medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment was exactly what I needed. After menopause (at around the age of 52), I had continued to have hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, etc., and was prescribed conventional medicine for hormone replacement. Even after taking those drugs, my symptoms persisted. Part of my treatment from my new doctors was finding alternatives to traditional prescription medicines which were not effective for me. I was fortunate to find a gynecologist in my area who had expertise in the area of bio-identical hormone replacement. Between the cBHT which she prescribed and the alternative treatments which I received from my other new doctors, I have been restored to good health and a wonderful quality of life. I am now 73 years old and very thankful for medical professionals who combine traditional and alternative medicines. Please do not take away the access to compounded bioidentical hormone therapy. It will drastically effect my health and many others who rely on access to alternative medical treatments.
