I am a 63 year old woman with vaginal dryness that severely affects mine and my husband's sexual intimacy. I have an allergy to alpha-gal which is a sugar molecule in mammal meat and mammal derived ingredients in numerous medicines. The FDA approved estrogen replacements, basically all brands and generics contain mammal derived substances like gels, emollients, etc. so I cannot use them. The compounded vaginal cream is plant sourced with no mammal component. There are over 34,000 cases of alpha gal allergy in the U.S.- men and women, and the incidence of it is rising. This will affect a lot of women and their husbands! In addition, mammal is in LOTS of other medicines... Magnesium stearate is common in prescription and over the counter medication. It can be animal sourced or plant sourced.The majority are animal sourced. I am a retired nurse practitioner and therefore also had experience with this in patients. It was always a plus to be able to refer patients to a compounding pharmacy, depending on their individual need. If you take away this option, you will definitely cause numerous patients much distress, me included! It would be one more strike against quality health care.
