I am 67 years old and have been using bioidentical estrogen, progesterone, and 7 Keto DHEA for over 10 years. During perimenopause and in early menopause, it was like my body was just shutting down, in addition to all the typical symptoms of menopause. At that time, my former gynecologist prescibed Premarin (with no testing for anything) and I had horrific side effects. So I quit taking it and, believe me, I suffered for years until I found a new doctor upon the recommendation of a friend. She ordered a multitude of tests. Not only was my blood level of estradiol so low as to be unmeasurable, I also was deficient in progesterone for a woman in menopause. She also discovered that I have hypothyroidism. I tried taking a standardized dosage of Synthroid, again with disasterous side effects. But my wonderful new doctor said not to worry. She prescribed bioidentical estrogen (Biest), progesterone, and thyroid hormones (T3+T4), all of which were compounded to an exact dosage that my body needed. (I was not "stuck" with taking a standardized dosage that non-compounded medications offered and that did not suit the needs of my body). My quality of life completely turned around! Over the years, I have had to have the dosages periodically increased by small increments. This would not even be possible without the availability of compounded hormones! Again, PLEASE do not allow the FDA to take this right away from me and so many other women. Just thinking about not having my compounded meds throws me into a state of severe anxiety. Believe me, I know my body and I have years of wonderful life-giving experience taking compounded hormones. If my right to take these is denied, I can't even fathom how my quality of life would deteriorate, and even if I would want to continue to live. I certainly would not return to the standardized so-called natural estrogen/progesterone and the synthetic thyroid hormones that made my life intolerable. If a woman has a right to govern her own body by having an abortion, then I have the RIGHT to govern my body's wellness by using compounded hormones.

Hear their stories. Protect their own words. Protect their access to compounded medicines.

On this page, we can only touch on the data that demonstrates the importance of compounded medicines to the lives of millions of people in this country. While the decision to take this vital therapy from patients and physicians might be profitable for big pharmaceutical companies, it will be disastrous for the millions of patients that those same pharmaceutical companies cannot serve!

We encourage the appropriate committees in both the House and Senate to hold hearings on this critical issue.
