I have been a medical disaster most of my life. Luckily I was blessed to have 2 beautiful children before my uterus decided it no longer wanted to be a part of me any longer. Due to my autoimmune disorders and medications my ovaries shut down and my body also stopped producing testosterone. I didn't realize a woman even needed that to exist. After walking into walls and forgetting my name, a kind Nurse Practitioner decided to ask if I would be ok with doing some testing. Finding out that I had no natural hormones left in my body I needed something to replace them ASAP. With all of the medications I currently take, adding chemical hormones would undoubtedly cause cancer, so we opted for natural. I'm not 100% and never will be but at least I am not falling into walls any longer and I can respond when people talk to me again. I'm so sick of people not taking these things seriously. The human body is complicated and everyone needs specialized doses to truly get the treatments they need. This goes for everything.

I am a registered nurse and my choice is to see an integrative doctor, who deals with functional and traditional medicine. I have been using bioidentical pellet hormone therapy, along with oral progesterone since 2017. After much research, I have found this to be the safer and best route for me. I would never use synthetic hormones due to the side effects. It's bioidentical or nothing. BHT has been a lifesaver for me. For years I struggled with no libido, painful sex, dryness, sadness, brain fog, weight problems, fatigue, diagnosis of thyroid disease, adrenal dysfunction and anxiety, hair loss, etc. Not having sex alone, can be a big problem in a marriage, too. So, the idea that the FDA would ban BHT or make it difficult to obtain, because a study was done and paid for by the FDA, is in my opinion, is a very poorly thought out study, that needs much more research. I also feel that the FDA needs to take into consideration that today, conventional medicine alone is not enough. Functional medicine makes much more sense and needs to be incorporated in the traditional medicine world. I'm paying so much more out of pocket for integrative medicine because much of it is not covered by insurance, including my BHT. I will not go back to total traditional medicine because the science behind functional medicine is so right on. I have done much reading and research. In my opinion, our system is too powered by the big pharmaceutical companies and so many of their medications that cause so many side effects that are harmful to our bodies and cause us to use other medications to take care of the side effects of the first medication that a person is taking. The cycle just keeps going. I believe in being able to make the best choices for myself, including a good diet, exercise, and BHT. It took me years to find the answers and the right kind of doctors to help me. My symptoms have dissipated since starting my therapy and I don't want to go backwards with my health. Shame on you, FDA, for even considering toying with my life. You need to involve the everyday people, doctors, who actually deal with compounded hormones, and do real research that involves more than a flawed study that has been paid for by the FDA!! Because of compounded hormone therapy, I am able to function normally now. That took years of my life to find the best therapy!

After chemo treatments, I prematurely went through menopause and found that regular HRT caused more issues. But when I started the Bio-identicals, I experienced success and even went on to use them for my thyroid replacements. Not once have I regretted the decision to switch to Bio-identical hormone therapy.

The biggest menopausal symptom for me was my lack of physical energy. I'm a big hiker/backpacker, but I was dragging when it came time to do my favorite activities. My mind/spirit were excited to be out on the trail, but I had to physically force my way through it. I was fatigued all the time. A low dose of bioidentical hormones prescribed by my naturopath made me feel like myself again. I was resistant at first, but I feel without this treatment I would be much less active and therefore much less healthy, and likely depressed as well. Please save access to this important treatment.

After menopause I was feeling tired,, started having a foggy memory, gained weight and had a loss of sex drive. Once I started the bio identical hormone treatment, my symptoms lessened and I am feeling better. They also help strengthen my bones as I get older.
