Hormones are everything. I have had female hormone issues for most of my adult life. The imbalances affected my mood, my weight, my energy level, my sex, and romantic life - basically everything. For several years I was tested and had to have my thyroid adjusted. Most medications were in increments of 15 mg., 30 mg. 45 mg and 60 mg. However, I needed something more specific to my individual needs. The USP 32.5 mg was exactly what I needed. It has brought my numbers in the correct range. I feel that taking anything else is going backwards to a less specific medication. I have taken other compounded thyroid medications and know that this one is best for me - a proper balance. 

Having Hashimoto’s makes it extremely difficult to rely on manufactured thyroid hormones. There any many inactive fillers that stimulate my immune system negatively. This is why compounded thyroid hormones are 100% necessary!! Let me be clear synthetic thyroid hormones are garbage!!  These do not help! Desiccated porcine thyroid hormones are the only hormones that I can truly thrive on! I have taken so many different synthetic thyroid hormones to try many different brand types and preparations and all synthetic thyroid hormones are terrible!!! Working Desiccated porcine thyroid hormones that are compounded are the very best! The key word here is working!!  We will never give up and never stop fighting for our rights. Bring back working Porcine Thyroid compounding! 

I get thyroid and other meds compounded and they are life-saving. I am allergic to many generics due to the use of dyes and fillers that I am allergic to.

I am a 70 yr old female. Diagnosed as hypothyroid in my late 30's. Have tried most all of the FDA-approved drugs that kept me alive but without any quality of life. I tried the drugs from the compounding pharmacy and within a week or two, I was on the road to recovery..
Twice in my life, I couldn't get the drugs and I was sick for a year although I still worked it was difficult and my performance suffered. I’m so grateful I was able to get treatment for menopausal discomfort from one of the early experts on bio-identical hormone replacement. Before treatment, I went ten years without being able to sleep through the night. I was chemically poisoned with a chemical called ortho dichlorobenzene in 1981. With that happening, I have endured tremendous sensitivities to many different products and foods throughout my adult years causing loss of employment and opportunities, besides the complete deterioration of my health. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's when I was in my late 30's. Finally, a diagnosis that explained all the symptoms I had lived with for most of my life. Unfortunately, the medication that should have taken all the symptoms away, Synthroid (and related T4 products) did virtually nothing. During the 20 years, I took synthetic thyroid products I was still cold, tired, depressed, constipated, cranky, etc. My Endocrinologist told me that he couldn't raise my medication dosage any higher because it would make my TSH go too low. With the knowledge I gained from STTM and some luck, I was able to find a concerned Good Doc who agreed to try DTE. It was about the time that NP Thyroid came out and that's what I used. My Doc gave me a prescription and basically stood back while I used the knowledge I gained from STTM and Janie's Yahoo group, to go down the path toward optimal thyroid functioning. This is an iterative process when you start DTE as you carefully find the dosage that works, using frequent testing and adding the appropriate supplementation to your regimen. You have no idea how blissful it is to not be constipated. To not have low grade depression and laugh a lot. To not need to wear socks to bed. To not have ugly broken and chipped fingernails.

I was fine on NP Thyroid for many years, until a couple of years ago something happened to the formula. It also became difficult to get my prescription refilled. Knowing that there were problems with the other manufactured DTEs, which I had been insulated from when I was taking NP Thyroid, I was distraught. I use just a couple of compounded hormones, the most important being Progesterone USP, formulated singly in a clear capsule. I have genetic variations that leave me, a postmenopausal woman, susceptible to uterine cancer if I don't take progesterone along with the bio-identical estrogen patches I use. Without compounded oral progesterone, my only choice is Prometrium, which contains peanut oil, and FD&C color additives, all of which I cannot tolerate. My sister just died of uterine cancer, as, for various reasons, she decided she didn't need progesterone. That's how serious this is. Additionally, every woman on my mother's side of the family has been diagnosed with this cancer, the older ones never having access to this valuable hormone because it's a more recent prescription offering.

For those considering eliminating compounded hormones, I urge you to consider what that could do to those of us who depend on them for vibrant health. Hormone replacement has allowed me to remain vital and active. At the age of almost 70, I hike hard and fast, do backpacking, rock climb 3x/wk, and mountain run. I urge you to do your homework and learn what you can about the value of clean, unadulterated hormones, compounded specifically for individual needs.
