I started having some issues with weight gain, even though I was exercising regularly like I had always been. Also fatigue and just general blahs. I went from someone who was active, cooked from scratch every night, cleaned the house, and did laundy every day, to someone who barely had the energy to make frozen meals and do a load of laundry a day. My family also missed out because I became withdrawn because I just wasn't able to function like before. I spent three years like this going from doctor to doctor trying to figure out how I went from a vibrant, active person, who was able to multi-task like a pro, to someone who had to drag themselves through the day and the brain fog was horrible. In those three years I was told twice that I had MS, (needless to say, those tests were expensive, not once, but twice), told several times that it was just stress and I needed to slow down, (not sure how much more I could slow down), to finally being told that I was crazy and that it was all in my head. During this time I had three women in my life that all had a thyroid condition and had been telling me that it sounded like I might have one. Well I went to tons of doctors in those three years and not one of them ever even mentioned thyroid and when I did, they just dismissed it, so I thought they are the doctors they must be right. Finally in the fourth year, a new doctor moved to my town and opened an Integrative Medicine Center and was treating people for thyroid conditions. I had never heard of integrative medicine, but I was miserable and three people in my life kept saying thyroid, so I made an appointment. After filling out an extensive questionare, I was at the appointment. He was telling me that just based on my answers to the questions that he was positive that I had a thyroid condition and he suspected that because I had gone so long with it untreated that I most likely had also gone into peri-menopause. After my test results confirmed hypothyroidism and hormonal imbalance, he put me on Armour Thyroid and said he wanted to wait on the hormones because sometimes if you can get the thyroid balanced soon enough you can turn around the hormones and not need BHRT. Well after about 2-3 months I was starting to feel like my old self, it was obviously working. In month 4 I started to have heart palpitations occasionally. I went back to my doctor and he first did some tests to check my heart said that it might be a little to much thyroid medicine. So we started to slowly decrease my dose to find what would work so the palpitations would stop. After decreasing my dose to almost nothing I was still having the palpitations, so I foolishly listened to someone in my life that I trusted and was a very smart person (although they have no medical training) who said to me that it must mean that I didn't have a thyroid condition and didn't need the meds anymore. So like a fool I didn't go back to the doctor I just stopped taking the Armour thyroid. I felt the same for a few months, but soon I was not just feeling bad again I was so much worse, I was barely functioning. After struggling like that for about six months I finally went back to my doctor who of course told me why it was not good that i did that. He did a new round of tests and we found out that I had not only of course tanked my thyroid, but my hormones as well, so I was in full peri-menopause at this point so he prescribed Armour Thyroid once again and cBHRT. Needless to say it took a few months, because I was so depleted, but once it started to work, I felt incredible. I was back to my old self and even better. The mood swings, the migraines that I had suffered from since I was six years old with no relief- all those years were gone, my energy was back and the brain fog slowly lifted. How do I know it was the Armour and the cBHT because I thought I knew better and stopped and that was and has been the only thing to keep my feeling great! I have been using cBHT for many years and have done much research on it. As someone who strives to live a healthy, clean, holistic lifestyle with as little chemical as possible, I think it makes complete sense that you would use something that is plant based that will perfectly mimic what your body would already be doing if it was working properly, so you have little disruption and no ugly after effects versus something made synthetically and from the hormones of a horse. A horse seriously?! cBHT keeps me balanced and feeling great, not to mention I have been able to recognize similar suffering in several of my co-workers, friends and family over the years and sent them to my doctor and they have all had great results and are always thankful for me pointing them in the direction of cBHT. It just makes sense that if you can have something made specifically for you, from natural elements that works so well, why wouldn't you and why would you try to keep people from getting and using it. cBHT is, has been, and will continue to be a godsend for me, so much so that I will fight as long and as hard as I needed to keep it.

Hear their stories. Protect their own words. Protect their access to compounded medicines.

On this page, we can only touch on the data that demonstrates the importance of compounded medicines to the lives of millions of people in this country. While the decision to take this vital therapy from patients and physicians might be profitable for big pharmaceutical companies, it will be disastrous for the millions of patients that those same pharmaceutical companies cannot serve!

We encourage the appropriate committees in both the House and Senate to hold hearings on this critical issue.

Explore our interactive map that demonstrates the importance of compounded medicines to patients all across the country. Filter these first-hand accounts by state to see just how vital compounded medicines are.
