My menopausal HRT includes two different hormones which must be compounded for multiple reasons: the right dose, the safety and precision of using customized topical products, and the freedom from endocrine-disrupting and skin-irritating preservatives such as parabens found in things Big Pharma expects women to put on their genitals. I would be living each day in constant discomfort without the relief from tissue atrophy that one of these items provides, and I wouldn't be interested in intimacy without the other. In addition, my purchase of these products from a local small business compounding pharmacy is both appropriately supportive of a sound economy and occurs at a considerable out-of-pocket expense to me. Insurance does not cover these items. I want the right to choose these products which are what my nurse practitioner and I, not legislators, have determined are best for me.
