I am a 76 year old retired registered nurse. In 1983 I underwent a hysterotomy and left oophorectomy (removal of the ovary). Following surgery blood supply to the right ovary was impaired and it's function was largely lost. My hormones crashed causing me to have premature menopause. The symptoms were terrible leading to have visual hallucinations, hot flashes, mood swings, low energy and night sweats. My OBGYN physician put me on monthly injections of estrogen and testosterone to restore my hormones. This worked somewhat but did not follow the natural dynamic of hormonal increases and decreases my body was accustomed to and did not alleviate the hot flashes and night sweats. I tried several combinations of oral hormone supplements which were no better and perhaps not as good. I tried not taking anything at all and became extremely irritable and anxious along with all the other symptoms of menopause. I was introduced to compounded hormones about 10 years ago, had a saliva test to determine my actual available levels and was prescribed a combination of estrogen and testosterone in a cream that is easily applied to the skin each morning along with another cream containing progesterone witch is applied at night. This application of compounded creams has relieved all symptoms completely and has no ill side effects. Periodic saliva tests have resulted in mInor adjustments from time to time. I would be devastated if I could no longer have access to this wonderful biological treatment. synthetic hormones are far inferior to these bio-identical hormones.
