“I am taking estrogen for its beneficial effects on my urinar...”
I am taking estrogen for its beneficial effects on my urinary tract. In the past, I spent $64 of my own money per month for the medicine. After talking to my pharmacist, I tried the compounded estrogen that worked just as well and it cost $60 for an entire six months. That is quite a saving since Medicare seems to think 75 year olds do not need estrogen. I would hate to give up this much cheaper, just as effective medicine.

It has increased my bone density along with vitamin D and calcium. My mother had fractures up and down her spine from osteoporosis and I was headed in the same direction. I could not take hormones by mouth. They made me sick.

I have been using cBHT since 2012 when I had problems with Premarin, managing the symptoms of menopause. I had a complete hysterectomy at age 39 (I am 64) and have needed hormone replacement since that time. I have found the troche to manage severe menopause symptoms since that time. I did not have success with creams. I have completed regular labs since beginning cBHT and worked to minimize my dosage to the lowest level that are able to be beneficial - as measured by symptom relief. I have medical providers in my family and have read Estrogen Matters by Bluming & Tarvis to be informed of the history and research related to hormone replacement given my unique history, family factors, etc. Please, please be mindful of the research outlined in Estrogen Matters which is different from what many physicians are operating from. And please provide approval of this meaningful treatment for over half of the population.

Entering into perimenopause, then full menopause, caused distressing physical and even some cognitive issues. The treatments prescribed of estrogen/estriol and also low dose testosterone were absolutely life restoring. I could think clearly again and function at capacity. The thought of losing this medicine is frightening. I am a new widow and have to be on my game to manage my life and new responsibilities.

Based on blood tests for annual physicals, my GP determined I was pre-menopausal, approximately six years ago. She prescribed a compounded cream to help balance my hormones. I applied the cream during pre-menopause and she adjusted the compound after menopause. Balanced hormones helped me in many ways, including better sleep, mood swings, night sweats, etc. It made my life a LOT better. My doctor was able to adjust my prescription according to where I was in the process. I don't like the thought of my doctor not being able to customize what I specifically need. I don't think a standardized approach to hormone therapy would be at all effective.

“I was forced to have a total hysterectomy just after my 40th...”
I was forced to have a total hysterectomy just after my 40th birthday because of severe endometriosis. About two weeks after surgery, I started having severe menopausal symptoms, in particular extreme hot flashes which occurred every several minutes, night and day. Unable to take any hormones for 9-10 months after surgery, to make sure all endometrial patches not removed during surgery had dried up, I tried all the herbal remedies for relief, e.g., black cohosh, dung quai, valerian root, etc., but to no avail. The unrelenting hot flashes caused such severe sleep deprivation that I regularly experienced microsleeps, one behind the wheel while driving causing a minor accident. These microsleeps were a daily occurrence and very dangerous since I traveled about 12 miles on the highway to get to work (still do). Most disturbingly, I was having suicidal thoughts because of the sleep deprivation and the never-ending sweating and then chills which would follow. It was exhausting. By the ninth or tenth month after surgery and after extensive research on my part regarding bioidentical hormones (I have a Ph.D. in counseling psychology), I found a holistic physician who prescribed the compounded estriol and progesterone I take to this day. The relief was immediate, most notably for the hot flashes. My sleep quickly returned to normal and I ceased having dangerous microsleeps. I was never interested in the pharmaceutical hormones and have never taken them because of their side effects, the cruel animal research involved, the increased cancer risk and my sensitivity to medications. The bioidentical progesterone has been available and paid for by my employer-provided health insurance for some time now. But I can't imagine being suddenly deprived of the compounded estriol and returning to a life of such extreme exhaustion and sleep deprivation that I would consider suicide again.

My OB put me on HRT and it was not helpful. My post-menopausal symptoms were life disrupting. I barely slept more than three hours and I would break out in drenching sweats, etc. I asked him for the bioidentical and he balked!
I found a doctor who was willing to give me the hormone test to see what hormones I actually needed. She prescribed bioidentical compounded hormone therapy. My quality of life has improved tremendously.
Once again the government is attempting to interfere with women's health!

Since I had my ovaries removed, I did not have the amount of hormones that post menopausal women have. Receiving estradiol and progesterone in a cream regularly has made me much more comfortable.

If I can no longer take compounded hormones I will have to replace them with synthetic hormones, which have been proven to increase my risk of breast cancer, leaving me little choice but to take nothing. Taking nothing means I will be miserable - no sleep, hot flashes during the day, and sweats at night. Sheer, incalculable misery. Please, I need these hormones to live a normal life.

Before I started bioidentical hormone replacement, I felt as if I had bone cancer. I literally hurt everywhere! I was 37 years old and there was no reason I should have felt this way! I had zero sex drive. All of that changed with my bioidentical hormone replacement. I do not want to use synthetic hormones derived from horse urine. This is a life changer for me as it was for so many I know using compounded hormones. I know this is done using the highest standards!
