At 43 I started having brutal menstrual migraines (at times with nausea and vomiting). I found a headache doctor who prescribed relief medicine but she was unable to help with prevention of the headaches. I went to my OBGYN who put me on birth control pills (twice) to try to control the hormone swings and thus the headaches. Not only did the birth control pills not help with headaches, but they created several side effects including trigger points, weight gain, severe irritability, oral thrush and others. The only other solution my OBGYN doctor had was a hysterectomy. Not wanting a hysterectomy for headaches, I sought out a bioidentical hormone doctor. He immediately started me on bioidentical progesterone. This treatment is saving me. When I had a headache I would feel terribly depressed as I wasn't a good mother, wife or employee. I no longer have severe headaches or irritability. And I sleep better. My options were bioidentical hormones or hysterectomy, which would put me into early menopause. Clearly I made the right choice! I no longer have 2-3 debilitating headaches per week. And I got to keep my uterus! I am forever improved and grateful for bioidentical hormones.
