People need physical touch to be healthy — a hug, a snuggle, and, yes, sex. What should seem pretty straightforward becomes more and more complicated as we age. One common complaint at the onset of menopause is a significant drop in desire. Low libido, compounded by physical changes caused by hormonal imbalance, makes intimacy painful, impossible even. Sustained over time, this lack of intimacy creates emotional barriers that we too often feel we cannot overcome.
It doesn’t have to be that way. In a recent episode of the podcast Happily Ever After is Just the Beginning, women’s health expert Dr. Carolyn DeLucia explores many of these issues with the show’s host, Lesi Doares, including the impact that compounded hormones can have in restoring intimacy in a relationship.
