Despite its manly reputation, testosterone plays a major role in women’s health. The male sex hormone is actually the most abundant hormone in women, too, and performs many of the same essential functions. Yet there are zero FDA-approved testosterone products for women, notes Dr. Angela DeRosa, while there are many available on the market for men.

On a recent episode of The Jay Campbell Podcast, Dr. DeRosa discusses how gender bias in healthcare makes it more difficult for women to achieve hormonal optimization, a key factor in overall health and well-being. There’s a basic misunderstanding of female physiology, she says, and a large focus on treating menopausal symptoms instead of trying to restore normal physiology so the body has the proper tools to stay healthy and optimized.

But hormonal optimization is possible for women. The key is using bio-identical hormones that are optimized for each patient to keep their overall hormonal health in balance. Unfortunately, Dr. DeRosa warns, the looming threat of FDA-restrictions on compounded hormones puts the health and well being of millions of women - and men - who rely on them at risk. It is vital that we act now and advocate for our hormonal health by visiting compounding.com and telling our stories, and by contacting our elected leaders to express support for the protection of compounded hormones.
