Threats to Access
Compounding pharmacies play an essential role in providing life-changing and life-saving customized medications for patients. They address critical needs when FDA-approved drugs are either not appropriate or accessible.
Patient access to compounded medications is threatened on a number of fronts, from misguided regulation to legal challenges by the pharmaceutical industry.
Along with prescribers and patients, compounding pharmacies have joined forces through APC to stand against these threats and ensure our patients maintain access to the specialized medications they rely on.
How We Are Helping
Determined to continue to provide the specialized medications our patients need, compounding pharmacies across the country have joined forces and are actively working with congress and other regulatory bodies to create acceptable governance, oversight and legislation for our industry.

503B Wholesaling Guidance
We have submitted comments to several states regarding their interpretation of 503B wholesaling guidance that allows pharmacies to buy and dispense drugs made by 503B outsourcing facilities. Additionally, we have submitted comments on the California Board of Pharmacy’s proposed compounding regulations, which, if enacted as written, would further limit compounded drugs in that state.
